What in the World is This? Help With I.D.

What in the world is this? My Mom helped a woman with house work etc. in the Santa Rosa, California area back in the 1980s. When the woman died she willed this to my Mom. It is made from copper and in the photo below you can see an Asian style symbol on the front and some other symbol on the back. It is 8 1/2 inches tall and is 3 inches in diameter. Is it some famous artist, college art class or just a cherished little out door vase from Cost Plus? Any help as to what it is would be appreciated. God bless, chris
