Shooting Star

Tonight Annika and I sat out on the deck and took pictures of star trails before the moon rose. We heard coyotes on the hunt howling off in the distance and an owl hooting. it was really nice out. An incredible evening under the stars.
God's love and blessings to all,

chris

  1. I've seen a lot of night sky pictures like this and was always curious: how do you get the stars to come out so vivid and clear like that? Time lapse?

  2. The shutter speed is set to bulb and held open for awhile. The aperture probably has to be smaller too, no doubt.

  3. Hardkoretom and Chris thank you both for stopping in for a look. You are both correct. This image was made by putting the the camera on a tripod with the lens wide open at F3.5 with a shutter speed on bulb (similar to time lapse) for a five minute exposure. I also made a number of images that had the stars pinpoint sharp last night but I didn't post them. The set up was the same except the shutter speed was for only twenty seconds.
