Wonderful Waterfowl

One of the things I love about Clearlake is exploring the sloughs and creeks that come into it with my kayak. Kayaks are great for photographing from. They are low to the water for a great point of view and they are silent. If you take your time with a slow approach you can get really close to wildlife. Yesterday I had an absolutely wonderful time photographing a variety of waterfowl. There were quite a few Wood Ducks, Mallards and Canadian Geese. The geese were a joy to watch. They were paired up flying back and forth along the shoreline announcing their presence to all within hearing. They were having a great time and so was I. God's precious love to all, chris Camera Equipment Used- Canon 7D, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM Lens,Bogen 3055 Ballhead with a custom camera support. Camera Settings- AV mode, ISO 400,F stop and a shutter speed varied. All photography was done from a Ultimate 14.5 Native Watercraft Kayak

  1. Hi Chris,

Absolutely awesome bird shots! I especially love the one with the goose in flight! How did you ever get such a clear shot? It's been a while since I've visited your blog. I like all of your shots. I still have my blogspot photo blog up but it's inactive. I launched a new photography blog on wordpress. Come check it out at Judith Riddle Photography.

    Blessings,
    Judy

    1. Thank you very much Judy. Photographing birds in flight is indeed very challenging. It just helps to be in a comfortable body position and pan with the bird as they fly by. The amazing auto focus on the new DSLR cameras is a great help! I get a lot more keeper images than I used to get with my older film cameras.
