Ain't No City Pigeon
The wild Band-tailed Pigeons have made their return joining the few resident Bandies that stayed through the winter. Earlier today five of them came into the bird feeder for a morning snack. I was photographing Jays and Squirrels and I could hear them calling up in the trees above me. Suddenly one was on the perch in front of me. I very slowly moved to recompose the lens and clicked the image. Then one after the other they came down from the trees. This was one of three of my favorite images. May you have a blessed weekend, chris It was photographed with a Canon 7D MkII and a Canon 100-400 IS v.1 lens. A Canon 500EX flash set at -2 stops was used for fill flash. The camera settings used were AV mode, ISO 800, F 5.0 at 1/250th of a sec. The camera was supported on a ground pod. #teamcanon

Fabulous image! These are my favorite pigeons. I don't see them unless I'm up in the mountains. Really neat bird! How great that you get them at your place. Will be looking for more of these on your page. Have a nice day Chris!
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and commenting, Brian.Hopefully I'll be getting more as spring progresses. Their population is on a downswing. We used to get flocks of close to fifty birds. now the larger flocks seem to be around a dozen or so. Have a blessed week.
DeleteWow, he's beautiful! I don't think I've seen one. But then, I haven't looked at the pigeons that hang out around my house because I've assumed they are "city pigeons." Thanks for encouraging me to be observant.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jenny. There are small flocks of them on the edges of Willits due to the oak trees and peoples bird feeders. You live in a perfect spot for them with the oak trees nearby. They love acorns!
DeleteVery very nice picture!!! That pigeon looks so beautiful. love his amazing colors. Thanks for sharing:)
