Substitute the Snake

Some days in nature photography things do not go as planned. This afternoon I planned on doing some hummingbird photography one of my favorite things to do. Alas, the weather changed and it got cold and windy. Not the best of conditions for this type of photography. Later on when I was passing by the pond I saw one of my backyard Garter Snakes sunning himself by the pond. Here is an image of it. God's love and blessings to all, chris

    1. Thank you, Steve,For what it is worth!
I really wanted to photograph hummers today. I'll give it another try tomorrow. The snakes are pretty cool though. Today for example i watched one drinking. That is the first time I have ever seen a snake do that!

    1. Thank you very much, hardkoretom. It really helps that it is a small garden pond so it is almost always still and it makes for great reflections.

  3. Hi Chris

Fantastic photo - we don't have any snakes here in Ireland (Saint Patrick banished them all) - but it would be cool to look out in the morning and see one in your back yard only I think I'd be terrified!

    1. Fiona, these little guys don't terrify me as their venom is pretty harmlesss to humans and they can't really inject it into you anyway as they have very small teeth in the back of their jaws. Rattlesnakes on the other hand...
