Steller's Jays

I arose bright and early to a cloudless sky and bright sunlight.I rushed out to my photoblind as I'm working on trying to create a really nice Mountain Quail image. I waited for a long time this morning before I heard the quail coming down our patio. I watched them as they fed around my feeders.Eventually one was about a foot away from a perch I had set up and a Steller's Jay came in and forced it away.Shortly after all the quail left. Steller's Jays are a beautiful bird but they do take over my bird feeders at times. They are very aggressive. When they arrive the rest of the birds move away from the main feeders pretty fast.So when you are given lemons make lemonade. Here are a few Steller's. Gd's light and love to all, chris

  1. What a beautiful bird !! I LOVE birds, so I am thoroughly enjoying your blog. I have the same problem with the jays here, they chase off the other birds. Usually I see just the common bluejay, but this past spring I was treated to a flock of scrub jays which are a much more brilliant color of blue.

Thank you for sharing and maybe next time you will get the quail :-)

  2. Thank you very much PerfectMindStorm for stopping by and commenting.I'll keep trying! The rains started today so we will see what happens with the quail over the next few days.We too have Scrub Jays in this area but they seldom come up this high in elevation. They tend to stick to the valley floor which is a more oak woodland habitat which they prefer over the mixed coniferous forest that we have up here on the ridge tops.
