Rainy Day deer

The rain poured down off and on all of Sunday. There was very little chance to photogaph anything but the local Blacktail Deer. I passed by one group with a really small buck and a wild eyed doe. I have never seen a doe with such bulging eyes.They stayed put while I photographed them from the car. Just stopping briefly from feeding now and then to lift up their heads and check me out.

Cold Morning's Mixed Bag of Images

This morning I brought Jay to school for zero period Jazz Band. At our house on the riddgetop it was 43 F. We watched the thermometer on the pickup drop like a stone as we descended down the hill into Willits. By the time we reached the valley floor it was 27 F. I went and worked out at the gym and then drove up over Red Hill East of Willits and then did a loop through Rock Tree Valley and then along Tomki Creek and back to Willits. There were places in Rock Tree Valley that were a brisk 24 F.I stopped several places along the way for photography.

I was up this morning before the sun rose as I wanted to catch the sunrise and try out a new spot for photographing deer. I didn't find any deer there but I did find a nice flock of turkeys. I found a few deer later on and created some images of them.The morning just got better from there. I came back home and photographed in the backyard and it waswonderful. Thank you God for a glorious morning.

Fawns and Quail

This morning I went for a drive with the intention of photographing a big Blacktail buck. I knew where to go from past experience and some previous scouting trips but it was not to be. On the way down from the ridge top I spied a couple of fawns and does in a small meadow that had been recently mown. They were having a grand time munching on the free hay that was created. As a bonus there was a covey of quail feeding on the knocked down seed as well. By the time I got through taking portraits of the fawns and the quail there wasn't a buck to be seen anywhere.
