Fabulous Fungi

Friday morning I searched out quite a few fungi all less than a hundred feet from my front door. There were quite a number of them that were already too far gone to photograph and were starting to rot. This has been a fabulous year for fungi with the early rains. There is such an incredible variety of fungi to photograph out there. All image were create with a Canon 7D and either a Canon 28-105 lens or a 100mm macro lens. The camera was supported on a Manfrotto 055PROBX Tripod with a 3055 Bogen Ballhead. Enjoy and God bless, chris

Fabulous Fungi

Most of yesterday afternoon was spent crawling around on the forest floor photographing fungi. With all of the rain fungi have been popping up all over the place. My favorite fungi are the really small delicate ones that are only about an inch tall.They make me believe that they would be perfect little umbrellas for fairies of the forest. A Visit to the Doctor

It's funny how hard it can be to get into a specialist when you have a medical problem. They are also usually in a bigger city than where I live in Mendocino County. My knees have been giving me a problem so they decided to send me to a specialist. I could either see one in San Francisco or Eureka. Hmmnn... San Franscisco, two and a half hours just to get to the Golden Gate, heavy traffic, long waits or Eureka, two hour and fifteen minute drive along the Eel River and Redwood Forests, little traffic, short waits.

I left early this morning for Eureka to do some photography. I went up to Arcata and also did little bit of photography along Humboldt Bay. Not the greatest lighting as I wasn't there really early but I did have fun. I photographed grebes,egrets, fungi, ravens, gulls and a Brown Pelican. My doctor visit went really well and I had a great time.

Mad for Mushrooms (Fungi)

Today I went mushrooming with some friends. Right now the conditions are perfect for mushrooms and fungi. We have had rain and now that it's clear the fungi are starting to pop up all over the place. I brought my tarp to lay on. My macro lens and some extension tubes and a reflector. I never got gurther than a hundred feet from the car. Every time I would turn around there was some new fungi to photograph. My friends found plenty of chantrelles and I was more thatn happy photographing mushrooms.

Fungi Friday

One of the cool things about living in a forest is that after the first few rains all the fungi starts popping up.This continues all the way through until spring. It gives me plenty of opportunity to get down and dirty and crawl around on the forest floor. Today I noticed the first fungi to appear right in my backyard next to the patio.Naturally I had to photograph this significant event.Now I think I'll go take a shower.
