Save It for a Rainy Day

Luckily after another long dry spell we are starting to get some rain again. My photography went through a dry spell as well. With all of the self imposed pressures of some big projects I'm hoping to complete in both my personal and professional life I'm going to knock my photoblog back to only one blog a week. Today it is raining once again. Thank you Lord! Here is a puzzle left over from Christmas. It's missing a few pieces as you can see. Serious Scenic Blues

I spent another day mostly indoors. I did squeeze in a walk with the dog out front. I'm starting to go a little stir crazy. The contractor is getting close to finishing the hardwood floors. It looks like probably only one more day. He had to stop early today because his rubber mallet for putting the floorboards in broke. Luckily it broke only about half an hour before his usual quitting time. Later on I was watching a movie on Netflix and Annika yelled out, "Dad you gotta see this sky!" Well that got my attention because Annika has a good eye for seeing images. Sure enough the sky was a deep shade of blue in contrast to the bright white patches of snow on the peaks of the Mendocino Range. It was a serious case of the blues. Clearing Away the Fog

This morning arrived with heavy fog and the bright morning sun trying to push its way through. I dropped Lenore off at work and by the time I got back home there were angel rays breaking over the ridge top. I grabbed my camera and photographed the sunshine peeking through the branches of the tan oak in our front yard. Now I'm off to varnish the woodwork in our house. Sunset Silhouette

Today it was hot! It 107 degrees F when Lenore and I drove home after working in her class room this afternoon. The skies were clear when we got home and then later the smoke began floating in from a fire. Perfect conditions for a sunset silhouette. Close to sundown I walked down our road and I captured the sun going down behind the firs and redwoods looking out towards the coast. I stayed long enough to watch the sun sink down into the Pacific and the mosquitoes began attacking me. God's blessings to all, chris

Last Light of 2012

By the Light of the Silvery Moon

Last night the moon rose large and full. I took a few images of the moon rising above Mount San Hedrin to the east of us in the Mendocino Range. About four a.m. I myself arose and created a long eight minute exposure of the Little Lake Valley below us. The valley was illuminated by the light of the moon. In the full moon image you can see the silhouette of a building on top of the mountain. I have been told that it is the fire lookout. In the moon lit landscape there is the light from a ranch house on the left just at the fog line. God's love and blessings, chris

A Bit of Photographic Fun From This Morning

Every time I finish a project using wood screws I always have a few extras in my pocket. I don't really notice that they are there until I sit down and one of them pokes me in the side of the leg. Usually I'm sitting in my office when this happens. I'll pull them out of my pocket and set them aside until I'm done working. Then I'll take them downstairs and throw them in the hardware drawer in the kitchen. For some reason last week when I set some on my desk and the thought occurred to me that wood screws resembled tree trunks or dead tree snags.I knew I wanted to create an image using the wood screws and needed the time to set it up. Last night I gathered a bunch of wood screws together and set them all on end on a black background sweep. Simple

The past two days have been really busy with projects. Moving my photoblind, appointments and landscape projects etc.I managed to create a simple image of the mountains and clouds on the city of Ukiah horizon today as I was coming out to my car.
