Rhymes With Orange

As a photographer I am always on the lookout for images that catch my attention. Which can keep my mind pretty busy because there is always something interesting passing me by. Yesterday when I dropped off Lenore at work there was this bright orange little car next to where I parked in the rain. It wasn't the car that caught my attention so much as the repeating pattern of the water droplets beaded up onto the nicely waxed finish of the vehicle. I grabbed my camera and made a variety of images of the droplets but this one is the one that worked best. Gray Day

Outside it is a lovely gray day. The raindrops are coming down in rolling sheets and the wind is howling. Occasionally a small branch hits the roof making me jump. Hmmnnn... what to photograph on such a stormy day? I grabbed my macro lens and photographed the water drops on the window. After editing them it looked pretty dark. What I needed was something with some color. Looking out the window I realized the best thing would be to include the water drops on the window and one of the the Madrone trees in the yard. I grabbed my tripod and set my camera to F 16.0 for more depth of field. Now I had a bit of color and some pretty cool water drops in the image. What a wonderful way to start the day. The close up of the water drops was done with a 100mm macro lens and the Madrone trees were created with a Canon EF-s 17-85mm lens.

Drop on By

I spent most of this morning playing with water drops and editing them on the computer. I know its been overdone but the darn things are so much fun to do. It is so cool to see the physics of what really happens when a water drop hits. The variations in color are only limited by what color liquids, back grounds and filters you can come up with to use.

Simple Things in Life

I have spent hours and hours editing images from my last photography expedition to Clearlake. This morning I really felt the need to get out and just do some photography. I grabbed my macro lens from my truck and set out into Summer Lake Meadow. I was really drawn to photograph the frost and the drops. It's amazing to see the simple beauty in a water drop hanging from a branch or to look at the frosty crystals on a seed head. Such a simple thing with incredible beauty if you just slow down and look for it, God has provided a myriad of ways to see his fingerprints in creation.
