Chicory, Deer and Hummingbirds

I started off the morning by heading out to the Little Lake Valley to restock the bird feeders. It's been a long time since I have been out there. On the return trip I stopped to photograph the Chicory flowers that were growing in profusion in one the fields beside the road. Following that I looked for deer once I got up into the forest. I found a group of about a dozen deer that were feeding on fallen leaves. They were really chowing down on those leaves! When I arrived at home I went into the backyard and spent some time with the hummingbirds. One of the most easily photographed was one that was in moult and didn't have any tail feathers. Momma's Watching You

Yesterday afternoon on my way home from running errands I ran across this Blacktail doe and her two fawns just as I turned up our road. They were all busy searching the leaf duff for acorns and sprouts. The fawns weren't very nervous at all but the mom was ever on the alert. She lifted up her head quite frequently for a good listen and a a look around. Just as I was getting ready to leave one fawn looked up with a leaf on its nose. That was pretty cute. Regal Fawn

This morning I went out looking for some deer to photograph. I found two. A nice little forked horn still in velvet on the edge of a ridge and a fawn. I spied the fawn up on the rocks above me as I came around a corner. I couldn't use a tripod because I knew it would bolt if I tried to get out of the car. I braced the camera against the window sill and hoped for the best. I squeezed off a couple of images before it took off up the hill. Not the best of images due to a lack of sharpness but even so I really like it because it looked so regal staring down at me.
