Monochromatic Monday

This morning I was up a little after six thirty. I was checking to see if our deck was dry enough to stain as I power washed it yesterday. When I looked to the east I could see the mountain layers covered in a thin layer of fog with the silhouette of the Madrone tree. I went back inside and grabbed my camera and a telephoto lens. Soon one image led to another all without color. just another "Monocromatic Monday". Hole in the Fog

Like normal for a winters morning the Little Lake Valley was filled with fog this morning. I loved the contrast between the trees and the fog. Later on in the morning when I looked out over the valley the fog was starting to clear. Down below there was a really cool window into an intimate scene. What a wondrous sight to see. How Green is My Valley?

Well actually not very green at this time of year but it will be soon. On my recent journey I stopped off in the North Platte River Valley near Guernsey, Wyoming. What a beautiful valley! What a sight this river must have presented to the pioneers traveling beside it across the prairies? In fact the Oregon Trail is just across the river in this image behind the top of those bluffs above the river. A little more on that tomorrow. God bless, chris

One Frosty Morning

The inland valleys in Mendocino County for the past couple of weeks have been dropping into the twenties. Combine that with clear nights and you get some great frost in the morning. Not what a lot of gardeners want to hear but it's great for photography. Annika and I went in search of frost along Willits Creek over the weekend and we found it in abundance. This morning I got around to catching up on processing some of the images from our adventure. God bless, chris

Out and About

This morning it was sunny and a positively balmy fifty degrees. I drove down into the Little Lake Valley where it was a brisk twenty-seven degrees,cold and foggy.It has been that way in the valley for the past week. I drove a loop through the valley and then did a short work out at the gym. After that I came home and failed at trying to photograph the Mountain Quail. This time at least there was some sign of them. I could hear them calling down the ridge. So on a positive note they are still up on the ridge. I also photographed some juncos bathing.Here is a mix of images from the past two days. Elk,Blacktail Deer and Juncos along with some scenics. God's light and love to all, chris

Trees in the Valley

Still not feeling great but I felt the need to get out of the house. I drove a loop around the Little Lake Valley just looking for trees to photograph. Plenty of trees mind you. Just looking for ones with the right combination of light and fog to make them interesting. When I was done I found a number of them that i really liked.
