Walk in the Redwoods

Yesterday my son Jay and I drove up to the Redwoods just north of the tiny town of Orick. We walked the loop trail at Lady Bird Johnson Redwood Grove. It was foggy and gray with fog so thick that at times it was dripping from the trees like a light rain. Nothing is so inspiring as a walk in the Redwoods. Old Oak

Last night I payed a visit to one of the old oak trees on the north end of the Little lake Valley. I wanted to silhouette a tree against the night sky and it was the only location that I could think of off the top of my head that would be accessible without leaving the road and going onto private property. The night sky was beautiful and glorious. I had a really nice time photographing the tree from various angles but this one was my favorite. On the drive home I was got to thinking and realized that that tree is probably much, much older than I am. It's all part of God's wonderous creation. Little Lake Sunrise

Many days I plan what I'm going to photograph. Other days God just surprises me with some incredible examples of his creation. This morning was a total surprise and I almost missed it. I was walking out to fill the bird feeders when I noticed that the clouds had these great leading lines pointing towards the horizon. I ran back inside and grabbed a wide angle lens and threw it on my camera. Then I sprinted upstairs and poked my head out the back window. The view was gorgeous and I was lucky I hurried because the lower part of the clouds closest to the mountains was just starting to be overexposed by the rising sun from behind the mountains.
