Pretty in Pink!

I think I'm becoming the House Finch king!! I have a jillion images of House Finches built up in my image files now. This morning wasn't any different. There were a lot of Finches coming into the bird feeder one after another. I decided to push the envelop a little bit with some bright pink and a Lupine blossom. A Canon 550EX flash was used as a fill flash. Camera settings used were AV mode, ISO 800, F 5.6 at 1/200th of a sec.

Beautiful Birds

Yesterday morning I headed out into the Little Lake Valley to my photoblind out at the Burris Ranch. When I arrived I restocked the bird feeders and then created a new set up with pink flowers in the background. Then I climbed into the photoblind for a long wait. After a wait of about half an hour a lone Steller's Jay came into feed and then it left. I waited another twenty minutes before the House finches showed up. From then on until I left the blind it alternated between House Finches and Acorn Woodpeckers. I was excited that I got some really beautiful images. Work in Progress

I had an idea for an image with pink orchids and a Steller's Jay. This afternoon I squeezed in a little time between domestic duties to give it a try. The lighting wasn't perfect but with a little tweaking believe I can create a pretty sensational image next time I give it a try. God's love and tender mercies to all, chris. This image was created with a Canon 7D and a Tamron 150-600 lens at 165mm. Camera settings used were AV mode, ISO 800, F 7.1 at 1/125th of a sec. Camera was supported on a Manfrotto 055 XPROB Tripod with a 3055 Bogen ballhead.

Inside Day

The wind is a blowin' out there! It's an inside day and I'm working on cleaning up my office which is an all day affair because I'm not naturally neat. In fact I'm not very neat at all. I am however working on it because I do know that it makes it a lot easier to work when I can find things. I started the morning off by photographing Lenore's Fuschia. It wasn't in very good shape after I finished using it for hummingbird photography. It was a small spindly little six inch tall plant that I grabbed at the nursery one afternoon. Lenore has planted it in a good sized pot and it is showing its gratitude by growing into a good sized plant with beautiful blossoms. I photographed it beside our living room window in natural light with a green background. Such gorgeous little blossoms. Thank you Lenore! Well back to work. Experimenting

Today I was playing around with some reflective lighting while photographing some pink carnations. I'm not sure if I like the results. Let me know what you think.

Playing With Glass Again

Some of you may have noticed that I really like unusual pieces of glass. Saturday when Lenore and I were at the recycling center I came across a cool vase that Annika (why is it always Annika) was tossing away. I immediately grabbed it so I could photograph it today and this is the result.

Leftover Memory of Summer

Today I awoke to the sound of wind and rain buffeting the house. I looked out onto the front yard and there stood a fading pink petunia in the planter box on the deck railing. Out the back window the hummingbird feeder hung there seemingly lifeless until a hummer made a bold dash against the rain and sat on the feeder and took a quick drink before dashing back into cover. I usually have one sometimes two Anna's hummingbirds that spend the whole winter here. When it snows they apparently go into short term torpor to survive it. Today I've got to attend to the house after a few days of neglect. it needs a quick pickup.
