Sign of the Times

I spent all morning sorting images. Some blog themes are starting to develop as I'm editing. Today's theme is raptors on signs. There are an incredible amount of raptors to be found in the Klamath Basin. As today's title indicates they love to perch on refuge signs. In fact they seem to prefer them over trees.The most dominant species seemed to be immature Redtail Hawks. I was amazed at how approachable they were using my pick up as a blind. Thousand Mile Eagle

This afternoon I got back from a fantastic trip photographing deer, raptors and waterfowl on two refuges and a national monument that are close too and straddle the border between California and Oregon. My photography buddy Joe Benoit and I visted Lava Beds, Tule Lake and Lower Klamath refuges over a period of three full days of photography.I ended up putting over a thousand miles on my pick up truck. This Bald Eagle image was taken just as we were leaving Lower Klamath National Wildlife Refuge this morning to drive home. I have a lot of editing to do over the next few weeks. Misty Mountains

Quite a few times a week I'm treated to watching the magic of the fog. The sun rises and starts climbing upward in the sky and the fog responds by shifting and flowing around the mountains and valleys. This creates a multitude of layers of Redwood Tree tops,fog,mountains and bands of light. It's just amazing! The following images were created during about a ten minute time period of watching out of our back window this morning.The Little Lake Valley slowly revealed itself from under layer of fog. Working My Way Down

I love wide angle lenses! I haven't had the good use of one for awhile now due to the fact that my previous one took swimming lessons in Pyramid Lake in Nevada a few years ago. At the time I dried it out in an oven and it worked well for awhile but the image quality of the lens has slowly been degrading. I finally retired it this week with the purchase of a newish lens. This morning I took it out for a work out as I worked my way downward in the fog off of the ridge top.With the ever changing fog there were always new compositions to seek out. Along the Ridgetop

We awoke to a gorgeous, cloudy and layered sunrise. I dropped Annika off to school and then had a doctors appointment. I possibly have some type of viral infection. Got meds and headed home. Stopped and photographed a couple of spots along the ridge top as I drove home. Just a perfectly beautful day to lay low. God's love and blessings to all, chris

Couple of Images From This Morning

I drove through the Little Lake Valley on a lark this morning. Along the way I stopped and photographed one of my favorite Valley Oaks. You could barely see it through the fog.Climbing back up the mountain on the way home I spotted this first year deer sunning itself in a patch of leaves beside the road. I had my dog Badger with me and the deer was not very keen on that! I left it be and headed on home. God's blessings to all, chris
