More Wanderings in the Garden

Most every day unless it's cool out I have to water our plot in the Brooktrails Community Garden. While the water is flowing it gives me plenty of time to wander around the garden looking for things to photograph. Right now with all of the flowers in bloom there are plenty of things to catch my eye. There are butterflies, bees, wasps and many other kinds of insects. It's a feast for the eyes.I hope you are having a blessed week, chris All images were created with a Canon T1i camera and a 100mm macro lens. Basic camera settings were used. AV mode, ISO 800, mostly at F8.0 . Shutter speeds varied. #TeamCanon

Wandering Around the Garden

I'm slowly starting to get out. We have been making trips to our little raised bed in the community garden to water. During each visit I've been wandering around looking for interesting things to photograph with my little travel camera. It's a Canon T1i that I picked up used. I put a 100 mm macro lens on it and it's a great little camera to carry. God's love and blessings upon your week, chris #TeamCanon

Classic Bees

Today I had to run to downtown Willits, Ca and do some errands. When I passed by the fire station I noticed that they had a big beautiful flower bed out front with some huge sunflowers. I thought to myself this would be perfect for that classic image of a bee on a sunflower that has been down a million times and it still looks good when you do it. I guess that's the magic of bees! I stopped and took some bee images on one of the sunflowers and then photographed the little buzzing buddies with a more creative twist on a couple of the other flowers too. A good time was had by all. I can testify that no bees were hurt or injured in the taking of these images. God's love and blessings to all, chris

Late Summer

Late summer is one of the most difficult times to try and photograph hummingbirds at my house. The bees are stocking up on nectar for the upcoming winter. In the process they absolutely overwhelm my hummingbird feeders. This morning it was impossible for the hummingbirds to try and feed. In moving the feeders around I was surrounded by bees and a constant buzz. It felt like a beekeeper at the hives. I finally gave up and came back indoors.


I went up to my office and started looking through old files and I came across one of my favorite images.When we were in Bora Bora my kids began catching Hermit Crabs along the beach. They kept them for a little while and then let them go. The kids as well as myself found them to be fascinating creatures. I love this image it for its simplicity and the beautiful color combination. What a cool little creature!

Note: The bee image has only about half of the bees that were on it. When I lowered it down to photograph it about half of the bees fell off or took off before I photographed them.

Bee Happy!

OK, I admit it. There are a few wasps thrown in here too. If I did that though the title just wouldn't work. "Bee and Wasp Happy" just doesn't cut it. Yesterday morning my pick up decided to act up when the engine light came on as I was taking Annika to school. I took it to Cal's Garage for repairs and ended up doing my downtown errands on foot. Willits is a small town so that really isn't much of a problem. I made the best of it by bringing my camera along with me. As many of you know walking on foot is a whole different experience for the senses than driving in a car. You tend to see, hear and feel way much more. My best find on my walking errand trip was the flowers in front of the fire station. Here there were bees and wasps aplenty feeding upon the bounty of flowers in a large, brick planter there. I spent well over a half an hour chasing down the flying little creatures. It was well worth the effort to enjoy the warm sunny day and bee happy.
