Textured and Framed

One of my favorite views as a child was of Longs Peak in the Rockies from our kitchen window. Longs Peak and its partner to the South Mt. Meeker dominate a good portion of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. They can be seen from a long ways out into the plains. While I was there recently I felt drawn to create an image for myself. This week with a lot of rain I had quite a bit of indoor creative time on my hands. I photographed a whole series of rock textures with a macro lens to use as frames and image textures. There are tons of free texture libraries available all over the internet but it's a lot more fun to create your own.Here is Long's Peak framed with some rock textures I created this week. A Slight Change of Plan

This morning when I got up I was really drawn to photograph a little patch of fog that was left in part of the valley down below. I loved the simple graphic appeal of just the one little patch with a few trees jutting out of it. The problem was is that there was too much moisture in the air and I couldn't get the image to have enough contrast to have any visual impact. I tried a staight B+W and that helped some. Hmmmn... I photographed a different section of the valley where there was more contrast. That looked great in B+W. But, I was still drawn to the image of the foggy patch. A change of plans again. I pulled a texture image from one of my files and added it to it. I like it much better this way. What do you think?

Carnations: Before and After

This evening I photographed some Red Carnations we had in the kitchen. I photographed them in a pretty straightforward manner using a sweep for the back ground. Then I heavily processed the image using a textural image from my files. Let me know which one you like better.

Playing With Rocks and Boats

Spent part of the day combining unlike things together. I was creating images using textures of weathered rocks from over by Clearlake with old fishing boats in the Noyo River Basin. The results surprised me. The two old things go rather well together.

Rainy Day Outside

The heavens opened and I played inside as I'm sick today. Some sort of hopefully 24 hr. flue. Headache and body aches etc. I took out some LED light banks, colored gels and some toy cars. I then tried out some new textures on the images . This one ended up being my favorite in black and white.

Coastal Farmhouse

Today I spent some time playing with textures. I have a large collection of textures that I continually add to. When I was with Lenore on the coast Friday and Saturday I found quite a few. There is a lot of weather beaten buildings along the coast due to the fog and the salt in the air. This is an image of an old farmhouse created about a week ago of an old farmhouse up by the small coastal town of Westport. I overlayed it with the texture of a weathered white siding on an old shed in Fort Bragg. I like the sensation of waves that it creates.

Everything in the Kitchen Sink

I love to use textures in some of my photography. Because of that I have a large collection of just texture images that I have photographed over the years. Today it was cold and windy out so I wandered into the kitchen looking for something to photograph. Actually I ready had the copper scrubber in mind I just managed to find a few more things in and around the kitchen sink while I was at it. When I was done I applied a few of the textures to some images in my files.
