Playing in the Dark

Today I got a new lens in the mail. I was happy to see it was waiting for me by our front gate when I got home from my check up with the surgeon. The surgeon explained to me that I'm healing well and that the pain from my surgery should subside in two weeks or so. Believe me I can't wait for that to happen. Just my short trip downtown for the check up beat me up. I couldn't wait until tonight to try this new lens out. It's a Samyang 14mm F 2.8 wide angle lens. First I had to wait for the moon to go down. Then I set my camera on a tripod and I focused on the center of the Milky Way between the trees in our backyard. Based upon the five hundred rule I had an exposure of close to 25 seconds wide open. I'm really happy with how the image turned out for such a simple composition. I'm really looking forward to feeling better and using this lens out in the field. Wishing you a great day and a wonderful weekend. Crossing the Milky Way

I was up and about attempting to photograph the Perseid Meteor shower at four a.m. this morning. All the meteors that I captured were too faint or centered in the image. The only bright spot was an airliner that passed through the Milky Way. It took a full minute and a half to pass overhead so this image is a composite of three images put together. It flew over so silent and high that its engines could barely be heard. Most likely it was flying into San Francisco or LA as where I live is directly under the flight path of airliners coming from Asia. Happy Friday! When the Stars Come Out at Night

Today was a busy day with home projects and no time for photography. This evening we went out for dinner and by the time we got home it was close to eleven P.M. Walking down the walkway into the house I looked up to see the Milky way and all its mysteries blazing overhead. I went inside and grabbed my camera and a wide angle lens and started making some images of it. These two were my favorite. One is a selfie no less! Both images were made with a Canon 7D and a Canon EFS 10-22mm wide angle lens. Manual mode, ISO 3200, F 4.5 at 30 seconds. Camera was supported on a Manfrotto XPROB tripod with a Bogen ballhead. Milky Way Rising Above the Redwoods

Last night just before midnight I hatched a plan in my mind to photograph a dandelion in front of the Milky Way. The plan wasn't successful though after a bit of thought I figured out what I need to do to correct the error of my ways. Now that is almost an impossible with out divine intervention. Thank you Lord for providing it. Now back to where I was. I didn't succeed in photographing the dandelion but I did get a nice image of the Milky Way rising up over the redwoods. End of the Day

Last night after I went to bed this image popped into my mind. I couldn't wait until tonight to give it a try. An image of sitting by the fire with the stars and the milky way rising up behind me. I can see some room for improvement but I'm really happy with my first attempt. God bless, chris

Part of the Milky Way

Continuing on with the night skies. Last night Annika and I were out photographing the night skies. This morning I spent quite a bit of time going through the images. My favorite image is the leading edge of the Milky Way setting into the forest. I just love it. It was one of the last ones we took before the moon rose too high in the sky making it difficult to photograph stars.

Still Playing

Yesterday was a play day as the weather was howling outside for most of the day. In the afternoon we watched videos catching up on some of our favorite shows from last weeks installments. Afterwards I made up one of my snacks and I photographed it.

More on a Bbilical Theme or Waiting for the Nonlight

I spent some time in the dark recently photographing the Milky Way. I had to wait for the darkest of nights when there is no moon to lighten the sky. I then added some images that I made of several crosses and the bible.While creating it I kept thinking of the verse "I am the Alpha and the Omega". When I looked up that scripture I felt it really worked as it made the two images work together when I combined them in Photoshop.

Revelation 21:6
He said to me. " It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the spring of the water of life."

This was a fun project to do as it stretched my imagination out.
